09.04.25 Early Dismissal
Last year Parsons High School donated the 3/4 scale Humvee they spent 20 years building, to the Pathways To Freedom Committee, to help them raise funds for construction of their veterans memorial. The committee planned to auction off the Humvee as is, but learned if they make modifications, such as installing a protective firewall, they can potentially generate four times the amount of revenue at auction. The committee decided to invest a little to hopefully make a lot, so with the help of PHS students' muscles, they took the Humvee to have the metal work done on it at The Body Shop. Drafting teacher Bruce Rea said he and PHS students remain committed to seeing their donation through to the end sale. Once the metal work is done, he said he believes PHS Video Production students are planning on making a promotional video to show off the Humvee, which students from every department have contributed to over the course of its design and construction. KSN's News Photographer Darin McCann was there to cover the the story.

The tech department ensured all USD 503 students had their computers/devices by the second day of school, and all PHS students received new Chromebook replacements this year. This helps all PHS students have the ability to research and write on topics, such as in Mr. Pommier's class, which is currently delving into World War II and what lead to the development and use of nuclear weapons.

When it comes to music, John Wooden's statement, "The importance of repetition until automaticity cannot be overstated", never holds more true, therefore practice in orchestra is done daily, preferably at school and at home, so come concert time, students should know it.

USD 503 is only three days in and Parsons students are already throwing paper airplanes in class. But of course it's Mr. Duroni's physic students who are into studying lift and drag in aerodynamics and documenting their results with the scientific method. Students divided into groups creating multiple paper airplanes, each different in its design of wings, flaps, vertical stabilizers and/or rudders (if any). Each plane was then put through three test flights.
