6th Grade Art wrapped up their Jason Naylor inspired heart clay sculptures just in time for Valentine’s Day, showcasing their incredible creativity and teamwork! Students learned about this renowned graffiti artist and his powerful message of creating an open heart, understanding that love comes in many forms and that together, we can overcome any obstacle. ❤️ Students crafted their sculptures using air dry clay, scoring and slipping the pieces together to form a single, unified piece, with some requiring hot glue for added stability. Then, they brought their creations to life with vibrant neon paint, emulating Naylor's signature style through intricate patterns. Finally, they mastered the technique of hydro-dipping, infusing their sculptures with a dazzling golden sparkle.

The 6th Grade Art class has been abuzz with excitement the last few weeks as they explored the fascinating realm of color theory and its incredible impact on our artworks. Students learned about the vibrant color relationships like complementary, analogous, and monochromatic colors, and discovered the secret to creating the entire color wheel using only primary colors. They put their knowledge into practice by designing edible color wheels out of cookies and icing, and took on the "100 Hearts Challenge" by mixing every possible color using watercolor. To wrap up the unit, the students applied their new understanding of color theory and watercolor painting to create stunning Colorful White Birch Tree landscapes. Where the students got to experiment as curious scientists for a class period by incorporating salt into their watercolor to achieve a unique texture effect on their background.
