Damaging winds and large hail are two other weapons in a storm's arsenal. Hail can exceed softball size and straight-line winds can down trees & destroy property. They often garner less respect than tornadoes, but are just as deadly.

Parsons High School Seniors Colin Ryan and Nick Sanborn have spent many hours in their drafting classes creating renderings of the proposed Veterans Memorial. As a way of saying thanks, Veteran Carl Johnson and the Pathways to Freedom Organization presented them with a check. Colin and Nick's efforts in creating a 3D rendering of the memorial have proved successful as the Parsons City Commission has recently approved the project and dedicated an area on the North side of the Municipal building. The student's visual rendering played a big part in that process. Way to Colin and Nick!
Every lightning strike can be deadly. Lightning strikes the U.S. 25 MILLION times and kills 47 people on average each year. Many of these deaths occur outdoors and are preventable.

Today's Severe Weather Safety Topic is tornado safety. Tornadoes pack some of the fastest winds on Earth and are deadly to anyone caught in their path. Kansas averages 95 tornadoes per year but has seen up to 187, with the peak tornado season running from April to June.

Parsons 4N6 showed out tonight in Ft. Scott. Jayce Quirin and Carollyn Chapman both won 1st place in their houses. Madelyn brought home 3rd, Makenzie 5th, and Antonio 7th. This is a talented group!
