Veterans from across Southeast Kansas will depart this week on an Honor
Flight journey to Washington, D.C., where they will spend three days visiting the memorials and
monuments built in honor of their military service and sacrifice.
Veterans are accompanied by high school guardians from the three high schools. The Parsons,
Chetopa, and St. Paul High School Honor Flight delegation will begin its journey
late Monday night, June 1, departing from Parsons High School. Veterans and guardians will
begin loading buses at 11:45 p.m.
A second bus carrying participants from the Fort Scott area will depart from Fort Scott High
School, with loading beginning at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2.
Both groups will travel to Kansas City International Airport (MCI), arriving at approximately
3:45 a.m. before boarding a flight to Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). Upon
arrival, veterans will begin a three-day tour of the nation’s capital, visiting military memorials,
monuments, and other historic sites dedicated to honoring America's veterans.
Honor Flight is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to transporting veterans to
Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials created in recognition of their service. The program
provides veterans with an opportunity to reflect on their military experiences while receiving the
appreciation and gratitude of a grateful nation.
Community members are encouraged to support the veterans throughout their journey and to
participate in welcome-home activities upon their return.
For additional information about the Honor Flight mission or welcome-home events, contact the
local Honor Flight organizers, or follow along on their Facebook page: Parsons, Chetopa, St.
